21-23 January 2025: SATRC Workshop on Spectrum

The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) successfully organized the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC) Workshop on Spectrum from 21 to 23 January 2025, in Goa, India. The workshop was organized in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person attendance and virtual participation via Zoom. The event was graciously hosted by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and welcomed 115 delegates, representing 9 SATRC Members, 3 other APT Members, 18 Affiliate Members, 1 International Organization, and 4 other organizations.

This workshop was part of the SATRC Action Plan Phase IX (SAP-IX) for 2024-2025. Its primary objective was to facilitate the exchange of insights, experiences, and best practices while engaging in discussions to identify challenges, opportunities, and strategies related to the Work Items under the SATRC Working Group on Spectrum for SAP-IX. The event also provided a platform for SATRC Members and industry stakeholders to share their expertise and future plans for spectrum management.

The workshop covered a wide range of critical and emerging topics in the field of spectrum management, including:

·       Spectrum Pricing

·       NGSO Satellite Constellations

·       Satellite-IMT Integration

·       5G Backhaul Infrastructure

·       6G/IMT-2030

·       Terahertz Spectrum

·       Land Mobile Radio Systems

·       Master International Frequency Register

Over the course of the two-and-a-half-day workshop, distinguished speakers from SATRC Member countries and the telecom/ICT industry from Asia-Pacific region shared valuable insights and experiences on these topics. The event featured engaging presentations and interactive discussions, providing significant input for the SATRC Working Group on Spectrum to advance their reports under SAP-IX. Participants also gained a deeper understanding of spectrum-related issues, enhancing their knowledge and readiness to address future challenges.

The workshop concluded with a half-day city tour of Goa, offering delegates an opportunity to explore the historical and cultural landmarks of this vibrant destination.

The SATRC Workshop on Spectrum was a resounding success, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and actionable insights among regulators and industry stakeholders. It underscored the commitment of SATRC and APT to advance spectrum management and pave the way for innovative solutions in the telecommunications sector.
